Buttersafe Expo 2012: A message from Ray and Alex

History permeates the essence of every person, every place, every object on our small planet. It is the genetic code of time itself, the force which dictates how all that we know and love comes into being. Yet, paradoxically, though history maps the outcome of our existence, we are simultaneously the crafters of history. Though we have no ability to reach back and alter the history that created us, we can harness our collective agency to forge the next incarnation of history that will itself become the blueprint for the next generation to both operate within and battle against. It is this endless cycle-- the push and pull between history and the history makers--which truly shapes our universe into wondrous entity that it is.

This is similar to how a pizza chef shapes a pizza into a circle. Or sometimes a square/rectangle.

WELCOME TO BUTTERSAFE EXPO 2012.

What is BSX?

Buttersafe Expo is an annual event in which people around the world appreciate pizza with people they know and/or don't know.

BSX consists of BSX Prime, attended by founders Ray and Alex, as well as BSX Local events in a city near you.

When is BSX?

BSX 2012 will take place on Saturday October 13th.

BSX Prime will take place from from 8-10pm, EST.

BSX Local events will take place at various times throughout the day.

Where is BSX?

This year, BSX Prime will be co-hosted by ShiftyLook and Buttersafe at a Times Square hotel in New York City, as we'll all be in town for New York Comic Con promoting the launch of the new Katamari comic.

BSX Local is wherever you want it to be... in your local pizza parlour, in your living room, in your college dining commons... anywhere you can find friendly people and pizza.

How can I attend BSX Prime in NYC?

Instead of crashing the Round Table Pizza in Pinole California as we've done in the past, this year's BSX Prime is co-hosted by ShiftyLook and Buttersafe at a Times Square hotel in New York City. We're trying something a little different from previous years, and because the venue will be a bit fancier and have limited space, anyone who wants to attend BSX Prime will need to pick up a free ticket.

The free ticket will reveal the exact location of the party and provide entry. Alex and Ray will be handing out tickets at the ShiftyLook booth during New York Comic Con. Note that tickets are limited, so show up to the booth early! Once you get a ticket, we also recommend getting to the party early, because the number of tickets given out will slightly exceed the capacity of the venue. So while you'll need a ticket to get into the party, admission will also be capped at a certain headcount.

Information on attending New York Comic Con can be found here. Alex and Ray will be at the ShiftyLook booth (NYCC Booth #3374) handing out tickets at these times:
  • Thursday Oct 11, 8pm-9pm, ShiftyCast Live! Day One
  • Friday Oct 12, 2pm-3pm, ShiftyLook Meet & Greet
  • Friday Oct 12, 6pm-7pm, ShiftyCast Live! Day Two
  • Saturday Oct 13, 5pm-6pm, Katamari Autograph Session
If you're interested in attending BSX Prime, but just can't make it to New York City Comicon to pick up a ticket from Ray and Alex, please send an email to Buttersafe ASAP. We have a very limited number of tickets to give out outside of NYCC, and our operations guru Arthur can work with you to arrange the hand-off.

How can I join or start a BSX Local in my own city?

We encourage both private and public BSX pizza-eating gatherings! Private BSX gatherings are easy: just coordinate with your friends to hang out and eat pizza together anytime on October 13th.

To join or coordinate a public BSX, try the steps below. Again, we're trying something a little different this year!
  1. Check if there's already a BSX being planned in your city. Search Twitter for the BSX hashtag #ButtersafeExpo[YOUR-CITY-GOES-HERE]. For example, #ButtersafeExpoLondon.

  2. If there isn't a Buttersafe Expo in your city already, start one! Choose a time on October 13th (this year's BSX day) and then choose a safe public place with plenty of pizza. Announce your pizza gathering on Twitter using the ButtersafeExpo hashtag #ButtersafeExpo[YOUR-CITY-GOES-HERE]. For example, you could tweet: "#ButtersafeExpoSanFrancisco Calling all friendly people! Gather at Moe's Pizza, 123 4th St, 7pm Sat Oct 13. Join friends and find new ones!"

  3. Spread the word! Ask friends to tweet and retweet to let everyone know where the party is at!

  4. Hang out and eat pizza! When October 13th comes along, go get some pizza at the specified time and place, meet new friends, and above all please be safe and kind!!!
